I first started painting at school in Norway when I was 19 years old. As a lark, a friend of mine (Lars Erik Holter) and I painted and displayed our works of art in front of the school Needless to say, we did not sell any of our paintings. Then, I didn’t paint for over ten years. I actually didn’t even think about it. It wasn’t until my aunt talked to me about creating balance in ones life and having a creative outlet. It didn’t matter what it was, as long as I was doing something creative to balance out my work life. That is what got me started in painting and it has become a wonderful creative outlet.
I have been painting off and on for over seventeen years now, but with big gaps in between…..the biggest gap being 5 years. In the past I’ve tried to force myself to paint and it never works. I paint when I feel the need to express my feelings and/or emotions at that exact moment. I never start out with an idea of what the painting will look like, it just evolves. I don’t title my paintings, for I believe that it might in some way influence people in their interpretation of the painting--- to be something different than how they would see it and experience it.
